Durham Tees Valley Airport will receive part of a £90.3m Government investment grant to the Tees Valley area for construction of a new access road that will open up the 250-acres of land south of the runway.
The airport had previously made two bids to the Governments Regional Growth Fund for finance to open up the south side land, both of which were declined.
The money received is believed to be around £1.3m.
