Canadian Lancaster to visit DTVA

As many of you may know, the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum are sending their Avro Lancaster to the UK later this Summer to join the only other airworthy example in the world operated by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

The Canadian Lancaster is even more significant for us as it was once operated by Flight Officer Andrew Mynarski, who was stationed at RAF Middleton St. George and whose statue is located in front of the St. George Hotel. With this in mind, the airport, as well as ourselves and other interested parties, have been campaigning hard to get the Lancaster to visit Durham Tees Valley Airport during its month-long UK visit. We’ve learned that this campaign has been successful, and the Lancaster will perform “at least” a fly-past.

More specific details including the date will be released over the coming days and weeks, but in the meantime, I’m sure you’ll all join us as we celebrate this major historic milestone for our airport and hopefully, there may be an opportunity to get involved on the day.
