London Heathrow has been added to the list of routes from Teesside International Airport after an absence of over ten years!
Eastern Airways will be operating the route daily, 7 days a week, from 14 September.
If it does well, there could be potential to add extra frequencies per day.
At this morning’s press announcement, Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen spoke of the progress made in the past 17 months since control was taken of Teesside International Airport. He commented: “I said we would rescue our airport, which delivered on.”
Fiona Carleton, the Aviation Director of London Heathrow Airport said: “We think this route can unlock a huge amount of value for the Tees Valley region.”
It is particularly poignant, as Ben Houchen alluded to, that Leeds Bradford Airport has recently lost its link to Heathrow, whilst Teesside is gaining one.
This route is in addition to the existing link to London City operated by Eastern Airways at the moment.
Routes to Belfast City, Aberdeen and Newquay are also flown by Eastern Airways, and they will be reintroducing their Southampton and Dublin routes in September.
This is great news. Heathrow is Britain’s busiest airport, with worldwide connections, as well as all that London has to offer for business and leisure.
Heathrow will complement Teesside’s link to Amsterdam Schiphol with KLM – another hub with worldwide connections, and an excellent leisure destination.
