Teesside’s Rarest Aircraft Visitor?

Yesterday Teesside International Airport welcomed possibly its rarest ever aircraft visitor.

The Fiji Airways Boeing 737-700 DQ-FJF had travelled half-way around the world from the place it had called home for the past 22 years, to enter retirement with Willis Asset Management – our new based aircraft recycling and maintenance company.

Willis are using Hangar 1 at Teesside, and received their first aircraft a few weeks ago (another Boeing 737-700, formerly flown by SAS).

They have taken this aircraft, which flew around the Fiji islands in the Pacific ever since it was built in 1998.

Now, in what is likely its last journey, it travelled from Nadi to Teesside via stops in Honolulu, Los Angeles and Bangor in Maine.

Lots of aviation enthusiasts were in force around Teesside Airport’s spotting locations to watch its arrival, despite it being after dark and in cloudy skies. Here are some pictures of it.
