Friends of Teesside International Airport (FOTIA) are pleased announce their second charity walk to raise funds for the Great North Air Ambulance and Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. The group is seeking support from either those wishing to walk and raise funds or simply make a donation to the cause.
The walk takes place on Sunday 17th May at 10.30 am and begins at the statue to Andrew Mynarski at Teesside Airport. It will follow the route of the original Stockton & Darlington Railway as far as the junction with McMullen Road in Darlington and then proceed to the halfway point which is the memorial to William McMullen at the junction of McMullen Road and Allington Way. Walkers will then retrace their steps back to the finish at Teesside Airport.
The total distance is approximately 10 miles and the date of the walk is a historically significant one as it coincides with the anniversary of the famous Dambusters Raid in 1943.
The walk is open to everyone and guests are most welcome, anyone wishing to join the event can register prior to the event by emailing events@friendsoftia.co.uk.
FOTIA Events organiser Nick Bassett said: “This is a great opportunity for members of our group and supporters of Teesside International Airport to come together for two great causes, get some exercise and honour two of our airport’s fallen heroes.”
He added “Both of the charities we are supporting are close to our heart and we’d love it if people can dig deep and help us meet our target of raising £2000.”
If you would like to take part in the walk, please email us at information@friendsoftia.co.uk
